Climate-friendly with eFuels at the start
The ADAC Tourenwagen Junior Cup is doing pioneering work in 2024. As the first German racing series to be powered by eFuels, the ADAC Junior League is setting standards in terms of sustainability and future viability.
Synthetic fuels are regarded as an important building block for the automobile of the future. The ADAC Tourenwagen Junior Cup is already leading the way: From the 2024 season, the 150 hp VW up! GTI is powered by the CO2-neutral fuel eFuel Racing 98 from CAC Engineering GmbH.
"The ADAC is also playing a pioneering role in the promotion of young talent when it comes to sustainability in motorsport. The use of climate-neutral eFuels in the ADAC Tourenwagen Junior Cup is groundbreaking and provides impetus. In this way, talented young drivers can promote the acceptance of sustainable technologies and present motorsport as an innovation driver for series development right from the start of their careers," says Thomas Voss, Head of ADAC Motorsport.
CAC Engineering GmbH is a technology partner of the eFuels Forum, an association of around 50 medium-sized companies from the energy and logistics sector that have set themselves the goal of informing the public about synthetic fuels. eFuels do not require any modifications to the fuel system and are easily compatible with existing vehicles.
"The use of eFuels can significantly reduce new CO2 emissions in motorsport. With eFuel Racing 98, the ADAC Tourenwagen Junior Cup is already demonstrating the usability of synthetic fuels," says Sven Schökel, project engineer at the eFuels Forum.
An ideal platform was found in the ADAC Tourenwagen Junior Cup: "We deliberately opted for a junior league to show that an eFuel is not a product for the elite, but an affordable and forward-looking technology that can be implemented at various levels."
"We are also presenting ourselves to a young generation to show that combustion engines can be powered by synthetic fuels, which can significantly reduce new CO2 emissions. What's more, the VW up! GTI is a very fuel-efficient racing car that is ideal for these purposes."
eFuels have already arrived in motorsport, with several vehicles at the ADAC Ravenol 24-hour race at the Nürburgring being fueled with synthetic fuel. In the Superbike World Championship, BMW relies on eFuels ex works. The ADAC Tourenwagen Junior Cup is now the first series to show that climate-friendly motorsport with combustion engines is also possible at grassroots level and with an entire racing series.
The ADAC is committed to the defossilization of road traffic and is calling for technological openness. Motorsport acts as an engine and catalyst for progress, which ultimately benefits everyone. The ADAC Tourenwagen Junior Cup will also be powered by eFuels in 2025.
